NEWS: SoftKinetic Announces First Affordable Time-of-Flight Depth-Sensing Camera for Commercial Use
DepthSense™ 311 (DS311) Professional Kit includes 3D/RGB/Audio Camera and Software for Gesture-Based Applications
BRUSSELS – December 20, 2011 – SoftKinetic™, the leading developer of end-to-end gesture recognition solutions, today announced it is releasing the first affordable time-of flight camera for purchase by developers and OEM partners. The DepthSense™ 311 (DS311) camera will be available for $499 USD / unit including shipping, and includes an iisu™ runtime license for distributing content.
The DS311 combines an RGB sensor (VGA), SoftKinetic’s depth sensor (QQVGA) and two microphones. Utilizing the patented DepthSense CMOS chip, the DS311 provides state-of-the art sensitivity and depth resolution. With optimal system performance, developers and OEM partners will be able to utilize the camera for gesture-based applications such as video games, interactive advertising walls, touch- and controller-less user interfaces and other exciting new user experiences, regardless of platform.
“The availability of an affordable 3D time-of-flight depth sensing camera, together with the full suite of gesture-based middleware and tools that Softkinetic provides, is a major step to accelerate the adoption of the technology in the consumer and professional markets”, said Michel Tombroff, CEO of Softkinetic. “Application and content developers now have access to a fully integrated, end-to-end solution to design, develop and deploy interactive and intuitive natural user interfaces combining gesture recognition, video and audio features, with a very fast time-to-market.”
“We have been working with prototypes of the DS311 and were impressed by the quality of the 3D image and the responsiveness of the sensor,” said Managing Partner Jon Fox of Helios. “The camera can be easily mounted and inserted into our installations and we are looking forward to using it for more and more consumer experiences in the digital signage market. In addition, the support provided by SoftKinetic is second to none, which is the reason why this represents the best solution for us.”
The DS311 development package has been produced in collaboration with Namuga, a strategic partner of SoftKinetic and is available starting today for online order at www.softkinetic.com/store.aspx.
SoftKinetic will demonstrate its new camera and technologies at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), January 10–13, 2012 in the South Hall, Upper Level, Booth 36062.
